“Negative Space” in Virtual Photography feat. Jenny Karlsson

I had the pleasure and the honour to interview Jenny Karlsson on my new column “Pixel Perfect” on Everyeye.it where I swing a spotlight on Virtual Photographers that somehow are able to move me.

Jenny is a very talented Virtual Photographer and she masterfully uses the so-called “Negative Space” in her work.

Negative Space in Classic Photography is the use of empty space to highlight a specific subject. In Virtual Photography, Negative Space provides a powerful sense of scale to the whole composition and (occasionally) generates a deep feeling of solitude.

What really struck me in Jenny’s work is the philosophical message behind her photos: we (humans) are a small and lonely ensemble of flash and spirit and the magnitude of nature will always overcome us. We are small passengers on a beautiful and majestic moving rock, and we will always be eventually forgotten while the world around us will always be the backdrop of our stories, as long as they keep being told.

Please check Jenny’s work on Twitter and Flickr.

Here are some of her shots, please enjoy.
